How we work
Overview of the Fund
At present, there is no platform to help global partners coordinate their support to countries, no mechanism to incentivize domestic investments to address child wasting, and no coordinated space to support suppliers of essential nutrition commodities. The CNF was established to provide a unified solution to these three challenges.
The Programme Window is designed to inform and help coordinate global donor investments in the prevention and treatment of malnutrition in children and women. Using UNICEF’s real-time understanding of the nutritional needs, available funding and remaining gaps across the world, it provides global donors with up-to-date information about what is needed, where and when. It also supports donors by developing clear, measurable, investable propositions that align with each donor’s strategic priorities, while complementing existing investments by national governments and other global stakeholders.
The Match Window is a catalytic tool that allows national governments to double their investments in essential supplies and services. The Window has two envelopes: the Commodity Match Instrument and the Services Match Instrument.
The Commodity Match Instrument matches domestic resources allocated to the supplies need to prevent and treat malnutrition – namely, multiple micronutrient supplements and balanced energy-protein supplements for women, and small-quantity lipid-nutrient supplements, ready-to-use therapeutic food and vitamin A supplements for children.
The Service Match Instrument matches domestic investments in the programmes required to prevent and treat malnutrition. Both instruments are generally deployed simultaneously.
